About Us
Art Not Shame is a small, heart-forward arts organization rooted in Guelph. We believe creativity lives in all of us—a birthright that needs only invitation, not permission. And we believe that belonging is not earned, but a deep human need we all carry. Our work is grounded in the knowledge that art can weave threads of connection, help us feel seen, and hold space for creative expression that’s as tender, tangled, and true as we are. We centre those who face systemic barriers to feeling safe, heard, and valued–inviting everyone to arrive as they are and to create in ways that matter to them. Through community-engaged art, we gather not only to reimagine, but to create more just and loving futures. Our community arts hub in downtown Guelph is a vibrant gathering and making space, built on accessible practices, endless art supplies, and radical, everyday care.

This is a contract role based on 30 hours/week at $21.30/hour (Ontario living wage for Guelph-Wellington).
The position duration is 9 weeks, starting June 16th, 2025 (possible flexibility on start date).
How Interviews Will Be Conducted:
At Art Not Shame, we are committed to creating an interview process that is welcoming, accessible, and supportive for all applicants.
Interviews will be held with two staff members present (we’re very friendly and judgment-free — promise!).
Interviews will take place either in person at our accessible downtown Guelph space, or online via video call or telephone (platform to be confirmed based on your needs and preference).
Each interview will last approximately 40–60 minutes. (It’s likely the interview will be shorter, and/or there will be plenty of time for designated breaks — we won’t make you talk for an hour straight!)
Access Options Available:
Traditional job interviews are often overwhelming and anxiety-inducing. Art Not Shame aims to do better. If you are invited to interview with us, we will ask if there are any accommodations that would support your full participation. You DO NOT have to share a formal diagnosis, medical documentation, or personal information to request said accommodations.
Some examples of the accommodations we can offer (but are not limited to):
Sharing a general interview outline ahead of time (including example questions, time blocking, and designated breaks).
Offering extra processing time after asking questions. (There’s no rush — we can rephrase, repeat, or even play some music between questions if that helps you process).
Captioning/note-taking for online or telephone interviews. (If live captioning isn’t available on the platform you choose, we will provide a live note-taker who can share real-time notes with you.)
Interpretation services (e.g., ASL), with advance notice and depending on interpreter availability. (We will offer written communication if preferred or if there is not an interpreter available).
Flexible scheduling across different times and days of the week. (If none of the offered slots work for you, we will find a time that does).
Alternate communication methods: speaking/verbal communication isn’t required. (We’re happy to adapt to your needs, such as typing answers, text-to-speech, pre-recorded responses, or other options that feel best for you).
Sensory-considered physical space: in-person interviews will offer a variety of sensory tools, seating, and lighting options. We also have a designated, partially sound-proofed sensory room. (you are also welcome to bring any of your own comfort items and sensory tools).
We encourage you to let us know about any access needs or preferences that you have when we reach out to schedule your interview. Our staff also have varied access needs and are familiar with accommodating a wide range of requirements — this is part of our mission. Please don't hesitate to ask; we will do our best within our means.
You do not need to disclose medical information to request accommodations.
You do not need a “reason” to ask for support or alternative options.
If you are unsure about what accommodations will work best for you (we get it- it's hard to know what will work when we are not usually asked what we need in the first place) we can try multiple and see what feels best.
We will do our best to meet your needs to the fullest extent possible within our current capacity.
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements:
These positions are funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Because of this, there may be some eligibility requirements (such as age, work permit status, etc) that we are required to adhere to, even if they do not fully align with the accessibility practices outlined above.
Where possible, we will help you navigate these requirements, assist you with any application elements that feel unclear, and do our best to support you through the process. Please feel welcome to reach out if you need clarification, support, or have any questions/concerns about this.
Our goal is to create an environment where you can show up fully as yourself, as comfortably as possible.
Applications and Interviews do not have to be daunting, hierarchical, or triggering.
We are committed to making this process as kind and supportive as we are able to.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests, in regards to accessibility for the application and interview process, please reach out to somer.graham@artnotshame.org — we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
